Bardsey Bird and Field ObservatoryBardsey Bird and Field Observatory
We are taking bookings for the 2009 season already, Summer and Autumn are full with the exception of about four or five weeks where we have one room left to stay at the comfortable Observatory on Bardsey. Spring 2008 saw Rustic Bunting, Short-toed Lark, Rosy Starling, Melodious Warbler, Several Orioles and many commoner migrantsGood numbers of migrants present during autumn and always the chance of a rarity. Recent goodies include Paddyfield Warbler (Oct 2008), American Robin, Booted, Subalpine, Lanceolated, Greenish Warblers, Little Bunting, Snowy Owl, Great Snipe, Red-throated, Olive-backed and Blyth's Pipits, Little Shearwater, Wilson's Petrel and Black-browed Albatross. Autumn 2006 provided two Radde's Warblers, Bonelli's Warbler, Short-toed Lark, Hundreds of Balearic Shearwaters and much more! With an adult male RED FLANKED BLUETAIL October 2007 who could ask for more? What's more it is the only place in the UK where you can see FLOCKS of Grasshopper Warblers (at new moon periods during lighthouse attractions). Also experience the sight and sound of a large Manx Shearwater colony where 32,000+ birds visit the island on dark moonless nights during the summer months. Something every birder MUST experience once in their lifetime! For booking details/tariffs see our website.
